Long before America's decisive military victory in Iraq and before a single shot had been fired on Saddam's forces, the Bush Administration was mounting a pre-emptive strike of such a caliber the world has never seen. The U.S. recruited Iraqi collaborators to uncover and hobble the regime's plans and capabilities, spies infiltrated Saddam's Republican Guard, and psychological warfare was being waged. Even bribery and blackmail was used. All of this preparation and planning was utilized to ease the effort which American forces would use to topple the regime. Washington's strategy paid off, and undoubtedly saved U.S. and Iraqi lives, when American forces swiftly dispatched Saddam within a couple of weeks.
