Summary:
In "Escape: A Slave Narrative," James W. C. Pennington tells the story of his dangerous escape from slavery to freedom. To start with, he recounts his thoughts and fears about embarking upon the escape from the plantation where he currently is living and working. He thinks allot about his family and the fact that he does not know how to get to the destination of his escape: Pennsylvania.
He travels at night so that he won't get caught, and uses the North Star to find his way to Pennsylvania. After a couple of days, he found his way to the public turnpike road where there are no people, so he takes the risk and travels at day. After meeting a man who tells him where he can find an old man who is able to help him, he losses his sense of direction and ends up in bad company. He is stopped by a man who asks him "who do you belong to?..
