A TAN TO DIE FOR
Skin melanomas, which are the worst form of skin cancer, are responsible for over 7,400 deaths per year (Creighton para. 12). The majority of those who died from skin melanomas had a history of using indoor tanning devices. The real question is, why do so many people, especially teenagers, continue to use these lethal indoor tanning devices when they realize that they are ultimately shortening their own life? More and more teenage girls are dying to have a glowing tan all year round, but may not be aware of the harmful affects of indoor tanning.
According to Cokkinides, tanning typically targets older teenage females, and a teen whose parents themselves use indoor tanning devices (Cokkinides para. 1).
