"Persuasion is the coproduction of meaning that results when an individual or a group of individuals uses language strategies and/or visual images to make audiences identify with that individual or group" (Borchers p.15 2002). In today's society music artist use a combination of verbal strategies, and visual symbols to affect their audience. Music artists of all genres use the persuasion process when forming their full image. In order to complete the persuasion process the audience needs to become involved. A rap artist named Nas perfects the persuasive process because he not only affects his audience but he also addresses the specific culture of where the persuasion occurs as well as the qualities of the audience that effects how they deal with his message. In this paper I am going to show how the rapper Nas is an effective persuader by forming relationships with his audience, using repetition, electronic eloquence, and creating commoditization when communicating with his audience.
