Coming into this class I had a narrow mind about jazz. I was ignorant and knew nothing more than the stereotypical jazz that is most commonly heard. I am not a musician and do not try to be, and coming into this class I could have cared less about most any other type of music than what I liked to listen to on the radio. But now I think I have a greater appreciation for music, and most of all jazz. I would have never thought that I would be one to like jazz music; it has never seemed to be my taste of music. But after listening to Mr. Nelms play and his passionate discussions about jazz I believe that jazz is a serious art and it deserves recognition.
Jazz is most defiantly a serious art. Jazz was introduced by the African American society during the time of slavery, which in itself is a very important part of American history, needless to say an important part of music's history. Jazz is a unique and interesting era in the history of music...
