Chapter 10 Discussion Omni Porter tells us to “ have a general idea of the classes you are interested in and the times they are available, check VIP for the times you are allowed to start registering for classes, and when your time for registration arrives remember to be flexible if you are not able to enroll in your first choice of class”. This is all practical information and it seems somewhat obvious, but you know a bet that some one will not do these three simple things before they meet their advisor. I think that if you do follow all these pieces of advise that you will be in good shape for the next semester and the next four years of your life. Transitions says to develop a good relationship with your advisor you should: “you need to know yourself, get to know the academic environment of the University of South Carolina, get to know your advisor, make appointments to see your advisor, be prepared to for your appointments, be aware that the central elements of advising will change the as you progress through your college career, familiarize yourself with other campus resources.” All these points all revolve around the same idea; knowing who you are, what you want, and knowing the best way to get what you want.
