Lancelot’s purity was somewhat of a quest for him and as he failed repeatedly, he would go on these so-called “personal” quests. ... Lancelot was a religious man who believed that great knight was this. ... This is what Lancelot does in the book The Once and Future King in chapter32 of The Ill-Made Knight. In this chapter on page 463, Lancelot explained:
“…I had spent all my childhood, when I might have been chasing butterflies, learning to be your best knight. ... ”(463)
This quote followed a previous statement made by Lancelot stating how a holy woman came to him with a message from God and how he fell asleep at a door less chapel where, as he dreamt, a knight came along and took from him his helm, his horse, and his sword.
