The main focus of my term paper will be the leadership contest in the liberal party and how it will affect the electorate. The candidate I will focus on is Finance Minister Paul Martin who is considered to be the top contender to replace Jean Chrtien as leader of the liberal party. My thesis is that Paul Martin will provide a fresh outlook and agenda for the liberal party and if he becomes leader the party will be a lock for re-election. I will examine Paul Martin's policies and how it will affect the electorate. I will also look at the types of people who tend to vote for the liberal party and the reasons behind it. The other issues which will be elaborated on are the importance of the leadership race to their respective parties as well as the traditional base of the liberal party and a brief overview of the various political parties in Canada. There will be a time of adjustment for liberals, but overall with Paul Martin at the helm the party will be in position to extend their run of dominance in the Canadian political system.
