Based on true events, Cradle Will Rock displays the working life of many individuals
during the 1930s. Using its many subplots, Tim Robbins, director, puts together an
outstanding film full of humor, music, and drama, while also teaching us a bit of history.
Robbins wrote this film inspired by actual events surrounding the musical, The
Cradle Will Rock, written by playwright, Mark Blitztein, in 1936, therefor the film as
historically correct aspects. During the Depression Era, the US government started a
program called the Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.). This program, which was
part of Roosevelt's New Deal, was an attempt to get the unemployed back to work when
