From times immemorial, it has been widely known that we humans require a lot of convincing before being persuaded by a persuasive speech or essay. Bill Reid's The Enchanted Forest, is a commendably contrived essay and a perfect portrayal of persuasive presentation. Admirable as this piece of art is, it most certainly deserves a special place in literary books to educate readers in the art of persuasive writing. Besides, it convincingly creates a sense of social awareness that is in itself both informative and educative. The essay is an archetype that can be used for educational intentions and for creative expression in composition.
Primarily, The Enchanted Forest teaches the reader the significance of the environment, especially our forests. The essay provokes thought in one's mind changing the reader's attitude. In his essay, he describes Canada's rain forests in British Columbia as being destroyed by loggers, thus causing major soil erosion. He also states the contrary; the advantages to deforestation such as boosting the economy and providing first class timber. The author does this to make the reader understand that in spite of the advantages to logging, there are greater and more harmful disadvantages...
