The Bluest Eye
The Bluest Eye gets across a very important and powerful idea about how certain people are seen in society's eyes. Even though the book was written a long time ago, the ideas and values held by society still hold true today. I believe that society can be influential on an individual and its ideas and views are strongly impressed upon that individual. Basically, Society influences the individual.
My first example is Pecola Breedlove. Pecola (the main character in The Bluest Eye) is a little black girl growing up in a society that tells her that she is unworthy. People, in many cases, whites, would comment and say things without even thinking twice about their effects. For example, at one part of the book, Pecola has three pennies in her shoe which she has been saving to buy Mary Janes with. In the store, the owner, Mr. Yacobowski: looms up over the counter...
