Although Helen Keller and Maxine Hong Kingston had difficulties to overcome, they both found ways to influence the world around them through writing. Helen was a young woman that lost the ability to hear and see at a very young age. She wrote about her troubles and made people realize how thankful they should be that they were born healthy. Maxine Hong Kingston was a girl from China who did not know how to speak English. She was able to give the world hope that even with emotional tough boundaries, you can still accomplish your goals. These two women had the desire to write and did not let their disabilities get in the way.
Helen Keller, who became deaf and blind at the age of eighteen months due to a chronic disease, was thought by many to never have the ability to communicate. Fortunately, Helen was assigned a teacher, Anne Sullivan, at the age of seven. Anne had a way of teaching Helen to communicate as no one else had before.
