Virginia vs. Maryland
Both Virginia and Maryland were one of the first colonies found in North America. Both started out under the royal rule, while depending on their plentiful land to make a living. However, as time spanned out, their differences became apparent.
The Virginia Company was created first. The majority of the people there were white women and farmers. There was plenty of land that farmers used to grow tobacco. The tobacco industry made them a lot of money at first, making many of the settlers wealthy. Settlers in Virginia later came up with the "headright" system, as a way to distribute land to those who already live in Virginia, and to those who wanted to settle in Virginia.
There was a lot of royal influence from England in Virginia...
