William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" was one of the greatest plays of it's time. It can sometimes seem confusing to those who are reading or watching it, because there are many different plots going on at the same time. There is a quarrel between the Oberon and Titania (the King and Queen of the Fairies) because of Oberon's attempts to make a knight of a young Indian that was given to Titania. There is the love story between four youths. There is the wedding of Hippolyta to Theseus, the Duke of Athens. And finally, there is a group of common men who are preparing to put on a play. These four plots eventually come together to give "A Midsummer Night's Dream" it's wonderful and creative ending.
Shakespeare uses many of ancient mythology's sources to compose this brilliant play. The four young lovers in the story have names that derive from mythological characters. Lysander, Demetrius (derived from the Greek 'Demeter'), Hermia (Hermes), and Helena (Helen) are victims of a love potion that was given to them through Puck, one of the fairies...
