Who Wants to be in Reality?
In this age of reality shows ruling the air wave have people lost sight of what is truly real? With people eating cockroaches on shows like Fear Factor, or living out their dreams on TV just to have them taken away at the last second, who would want to live in our bland world of reality? In the short story "Videotape", Don DeLillo, makes a bold statement about how people feel about what is truly real. For decades now people have made the argument that T.V. has altered the way that we look at certain serious subjects in out lives such as violence, sex, and drugs. With these so-called "reality" being piped in to every average Jo's house nightly how is one to tell what is real and what is not?
Webster's Dictionary states reality as being "[] state or quality of being real" (1). From the beginning man has been taught what is real and what is not, but how do we know what we were told is the truth?..
