Do you think oral exams or written exams are better at university?
One of the biggest differences between Italian and American university are the exams that students are request to do. Most of the times Italian exams are oral, with a small written part. On the other hand, American University is famous for its written exams based numerically in order weather or not to pass or fail you. For the student every exam is difficult except the multiple-choice type, which makes the student feel more confident in order to pass the examination. Academic exams are usually divided in three categories, oral, written and multiple-choice. Both oral and written examinations are effective in helping students to remember long term what they have learned while multiple-choice testing is less intensive.
The oral exams are more often than not such an insurmountable obstacle for many students, especially if they are insecure and timid. This is because stress can be very high in these types of examinations and even the well-prepared students can go in confusion.
