'An Agricultural Revolution occurred in Britain between 1750 and 1840'
Britain in the period between 1750 and 1840 was changing rapidly, a demographic explosion was occurring like no other ever seen. Fortunately the agricultural revolution meant that food was available for the increasing population. Not only did it help to feed the workforce of the industrial revolution but it supplied raw materials as well.
In order for the Agricultural Revolution to increase the amount of food produced it had to do a number of things. One method was to increase the area of land used for production. Most of the best farming land was already being used, so fen and marshlands were drained, cleared and cultivated. But most important thing to be done was to raise the output of the land already in use.
The change in arable farming was quite significant in the process of the agricultural revolution. Grain crops used to be taken from the land in annual succession; it was then left fallow in order to let the land recover from the cropping before being planted again. This held a significant disadvantage because a third or even more of the arable land was uncropped each year...
