Computer Virus Types can be hidden in programs available on floppy disks or CDs, hidden in email attachments or in material downloaded from the web. There are at least 60,000 known viruses and more are written every day. Today, I will be discussing the operations and damages of computer viruses, worms and Trojans.
What's a computer "Virus"? Much like a literal virus, computer viruses are called viruses because they share some of the traits of biological viruses. A computer virus passes from computer to computer like a biological virus passes from person to person. Essentially, a computer virus is a program designed to reproduce and spread on its own, preferably without you knowing that it exists. Computer viruses spread by attaching themselves to another program (such as your word processing or spreadsheet programs. When an infected file is executed, or the computer is started from an infected disk, the virus itself is executed. Often, it lurks in memory, waiting to infect the next program that is run, or the next disk that is accessed...
