What puzzles me about economics as a science

All economics are captured in some kind of dilemma. The relationship between the theory and the application in real life is a problem. Many theories and models cannot be verified neither falsified. Economics tries to explain what happened and why but fails to predict future events from these realizations. Therefore everybody is split about the importance of economics. Is it really a science when there is not much evidence for truth behind the ideas? Or is it just the wrong thinking about this science?
Starting with the study on economics most of the students are fascinated by this new knowledge and immediately try to connect these new cognitions with their real life surrounding. However, they find nearly in all decisions and everyday situations the assumptions of the theories. That makes a new student proud and as one human need, they try to get recognizance from their friends and families...
