Patricia S. Goldman-Rakic profile
Patricia S. Goldman-Rakic is a professor of Neurobiology, Neurology, and Psychiatry at Yale University. She graduated with her PhD from the University of California. Her main interests are in the frontal cortex of the brain, where she states is the "glue of consciousness"(Discover, 2002). The frontal cortex is located in the very front of the brain, and is very important because it takes up one third of the total brain mass (Bower, 2003). Before Dr. Goldman-Rakic's research in this area it was unknown how this mass of tissue operates or what purpose it serves.
She uses primates for much of her research to test for damage to the brain. The only problem being that it is difficult to explore the memory of an organism that cannot speak (nature publishing group, 2002)...
