After September 11th, Ashcroft, Bush, and Cheney have begun taking measures that expand their powers to fight terrorism. These measures include taking away the free speech, assembly, and association and its assurances of privacy, due process, equal protection, legal counsel, and a fair trial. I don’t think all of that is necessary just to fight terrorism. I mean I’m fine with trying to become a more secure nation by sacrificing some of my liberties such as having the FBI check through my email to see if I’ve been discussing plans to blow up an embassy or something like that and that can easily be done with a search engine by the government.
