His Love Letters
Napoleon not only possessed talent in leading his armies into battle and preparing strategies for war, but he was also very romantic. His love letters to his mistresses are very beautiful and are commonly used as examples to display the art of love letters. "Your image and the intoxicating pleasures of last night, allow my senses no rest."(napoleon guide) This was written to his first wife Josephine followed by much more sweet talk.
He wrote to his wife on almost a daily basis although he was busy with warfare. He didn't see her much but you can see, through his letters, the love he possessed for her: "Come soon; I warn you, if you delay, you will find me ill."
Not only do you see him express his love but you also get a taste of his worries and his jealousy. For instance, Napoleon is fearful that his absence decreases Josephine's love for him and each day that he does not receive a letter, he begins to worry. "Indeed, I am very uneasy, my love, at receiving no news of you"
The great amount of emotion that he puts into his letters makes you think how he is able to command his troops with so much worrying on his mind. He continued to keep in touch with Josephine after their divorce, he spoke of her in still a loving manner...
