“War on Drugs”
Antifreeze, bone, acid, Hugs and Kisses, Crack, and pot; what do these things all have in common? Their names sound innocent enough but these and many others are street names for cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, and many other drugs that make up one of the leading causes of death in America. For the past thirty years, our main defense against drug abuse has been “the war on drugs.” The answer the “war on drugs” has been able to provide is stricter laws against drug offense and a more thorough preventive education for children. However despite the efforts of the war, surveys have shown that in the past decade, drug usage is still steadily increasing among the teenage population. Also, the severe restrictions the war places on drug offenses has sent many innocent people wrongfully to jail and ruined people’s lives. ... The ultimatum is that drugs ruin lives and the trafficking of illegal drugs must be stopped. However, based on statistics the discontent of the people, it has become more and more clear that the “War on Drugs” is incapable of preventing drug trafficking in the US and it is no longer the answer.
