Amidst the hype over the Lawrence v. Texas case about the Texas same-sex sodomy case of Winter 2003, The Washington Post elaborated on a group of antigay rights demonstrators who held signs outside of the state court denouncing homosexuality. One sign read “Thank God for Sept. 11,” a reference to statements made by Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, conservative Christian leaders who believe the 2001 terrorist attacks reflected God’s anger at gays and gay rights supporters. Although Texas’ same-sex sodomy law has been repealed, sodomy is still a concern for several people who interpret the Bible literally. The word “Sodomy” comes from “Sodom,” a group of people involved in one of the most famous Bible stories that is said to deal with homosexuality, found in Genesis 19:11-1.
