Freedom! Many people in life strive for it, no matter where they fit into our society. The "Declaration of Independence" guarantees Americans freedom, but do citizens of the United States of America, truly understand the concept? Do Americans realize that there are predetermined factors in their life that limit their level of freedom? If they do, are they able to escape their sex, race, economic class, nationality, and age, so they are able to reach their highest level of freedom?
To the people of America today, freedom means the ability to make their own decisions. This idea of freedom hasn't changed much throughout the years, along with its definition. Webster's dictionary defines freedom as, "the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action." With this idea, Thomas Jefferson wrote the "Declaration of Independence." When Jefferson wrote the "Declaration of Independence", he guaranteed all Americans the right to freedom; however, we now know that this wasn't the case...
