I will explain the advantages and disadvantages to adopting a minimum level of service for the delivery of fire-rescue services throughout Palm Beach County. I will also explain how the advantages and disadvantages will affect respective cities, communities, employees, politicians, and citizens through out Palm Beach County. I will explain the concept of using one centralized Dispatch Center for all Fire and Emergency Medical organizations. I will document the use of the closest unit response to an emergency incident regardless of jurisdiction with a Unified Fire-Rescue Communication Center. I will explain the positives and negatives of the proposed new method of mutual aid agreement.
The issue of a minimum level of service of fire-rescue personnel for Palm Beach County residents was brought up due to an annexation issue between the city of Boca Raton firefighters and the Palm Beach County firefighters. This annexation created concerns with who will provide fire-rescue services for the unincorporated western communities of Boca Raton. Chief Herman Brice of Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue and the firefighter's union is worried this annexation may create a loss of firefighter jobs. Another concern is other cities in Palm Beach County like Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, and West Palm Beach might possibly consider consolidating some their western areas of Palm Beach County.
