Can Certain Media Really Change Our Nation s Children

In a society that is so focused on being free while maintaining safety, how do we have such media that shows us the opposite? Throughout history and still today, music and movies have always been popular in American culture, as they have grown to be somewhat of a pastime. But what happens when these pastimes become increasingly harsh on a child's mind? The violent events that come out of music and movies have been questioned for some time now to see if they are causing violent events in real life. The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry has a theory that could be right or wrong. It starts off saying that first, the children seem to identify with the singers or actors. After that, they become immune to the violence they are hearing or seeing and gradually accept violence as a way to solve problems. But can it be true that the more and more you hear or see something it almost becomes a part of you? In a recent study, it showed much of the violence today is children and teenager related. Crimes by young people are no longer predominantly misdemeanors; they now include the major felonies of homicide, rape, robbery, and serious assault (Aznaran)...
