The Avro CF-105 "Arrow" was an aircraft designed to protect Canada in the 1950's. The Arrow used visionary technology and was designed by the Canadian company A.V. Roe (Avro) Canada. During its many test flights, the Arrow preformed extremely well and surprised even the most skeptical critics. However, to the dismay of many, on February 20th 1959 the Avro Arrow was cancelled. The cancellation of the Avro Arrow forever changed Canada's stance on an international level. Canada lost the ability to protect itself, therefore becoming a nation dependant on the US for defense as well as technological innovations.
On February 20th 1959 the Avro Arrow was cancelled. This day has been referred to as "Black Friday" in Canadian history, not only because 14, 000 workers lost their jobs, but also because it placed Canada at the mercy of the United States Military...
