If I were to tell you that you could carry a whole set of encyclopedia in the palm of your hand, or that you could carry the whole London Symphony Orchestra in your back pocket you would probably think Im mad. Well I am going to tell you that you can do this and more, all thanks to the Compact Disc.
The compact disc made is debut around the 1980s. At the time it was released in the form of a video disc. Due to the lack of quality and technology which inhibited the capacity for the disc to hold large amounts of information, the disc did not become a commercial success. It wasn't until several years later that a joint venture between Sony Music Corporation and Philip saw the birth of the new and improved Disc. The new disc was considerably smaller than the video disc, measuring at 12cm in diameter. It also had the capability to hold large amounts of high quality audio information. The first album to be released on compact disc was Joels 52nd street in 1982.
The success of the compact disc led to major electronic companies world wide scrambling to push the cds limits even further...
