Declaration of Independence from the Conformist Society
I stand for independence from society, and strongly believe it is necessary for the future generations of teenagers and young adults. This independence is needed because in today's society, there are too many people who act alike, talk alike, dress alike, and walk alike. Many of today's teenagers and young adults see this, and think that they have to be the same as everyone else. About a handful don't see it that way, and stand out by acting different, talking different, dressing different, and walking different. As a result, they get ridiculed for not conforming to what society deems appropriate. The main problem with this Conformist Society is that no one has the right to his or her own opinion about themselves anymore. Everyone else tells them what to do. Because school policy is based on the conformist society, I am not aloud to wear clothes that I use to express who I am, and how I think. Because of the original Puritan British colonies that first landed here, we are plagued with old-world ideas that refuse to adapt to the constantly changing era we live in. For example, say I wanted to have my girlfriend spend the night, even if she were to sleep in a separate room, and I couldn't see her until the next morning, society won't stand for it, and deems it inappropriate...
