Over 100 years ago, in 1898, Caleb Bradham, a drugstore pharmacist, began marketing Pepsi-Cola. In the time since, the company, now called PepsiCo, has expanded from a simple soft drink manufacturer to a multi-billion dollar enterprise. The products that immediately come to most peoples mind when they think of PepsiCo are the soft drinks such as Pepsi, Slice, and Mountain Dew. This makes it even more surprising that the majority of its revenues come from its Frito Lay division, which produces snack chips such as Doritos, Tostitos and Ruffles potato chips. The company has also acquired Tropicana, Gatorade, and The Quaker Oats Company (PepsiCo 2001 Annual Report, http://www.pepsico.com).
PepsiCo has a wide variety of products to offer and covers several food-related market segments. Pepsi-Cola products, which include Diet Pepsi, Pepsi-ONE, Mountain Dew, Slice, Lipton Teas and Mug brands, account for nearly one-third of total soft drink sales in the U.S...
