Instant Messaging in the Enterprise:
Instant messaging is an internet based service that allows users to communicate in real time with other users who have the same instant messaging application. It is classified as "presence technology," which means that when the user launches the application, they instantaneously see who is online. It is part of IT called groupware, which is a technology designed to facilitate the work of groups. This technology is used to communicate, cooperate, coordinate, solve problems, compete, or negotiate. Instant messaging works like a virtual chat room, where two or more people can talk simultaneously among themselves mostly through text. This service is unique in the fact that it works like a telephone conversation. Users sign in to the program, see who is online, and start to send each other text or voice messages. They can also share web links, streaming content, and sounds. A group of users can create a virtual chat room to conduct meetings, or even talk with customers.
