PRAC REPORT- Inertia and Seatbelts
Aim:
To see what would happen to passengers in a vehicle who were not wearing seatbelts or using head restraints, when involved in a collision.
Equipment needed:
Wooden ramp (flat piece of wood)
4 bricks
2 carts- toy cars
plasticine
sheet of graph paper
talcum powder
4 toothpicks
piece of chalk
metre ruler
masking tape
Procedure:
PART A- Two plasticine dummies were made, and placed on the front of each cart (powdered to reduce the stickiness). 20cm intervals were marked on the ramp, from the bottom up. One cart was placed 30cm in front of the ramp. The second cart was placed on the ramp at the 100cm mark, in line with the first cart. The cart on the ramp was released so that it collided with the other cart. This was repeated twice, the dummies placed in the same place each time.
PART B- A brick was taped to the desk 30cm in front of the ramp. A cart was placed on the 20cm mark, lined up with the brick and released. The dummy was thrown forwards and the distance between the brick and the dummy measured...
