Edgar Allen Poe
Many of Edgar Allen Poe's writings are about sick and twisted things. Many similar themes in Poe' work are death, midnight, pain, and the seven stages of life.
The number seven in Poe's work represents the seven stages of life. In the Tell Tale Heart Poe say's " And this I did for seven long nights." Seven is the last stage of life and in the Tell Tale Heart the old man dies on the seventh night. Also in the "Black Cat" the number seven appears because the seventh animal, which was a black cat, shows that the girl was murdered and placed in the wall. It was once said by Poe that "we had birds, goldfish, a fine dog, rabbits, a small monkey, and a cat." And once the first cat dies they get another one and that makes seven animals total. In "The Pit and the Pendulum," Poe says " And then my vision fell upon the seven tall candles on the table." In this story he refers to the candles in the pit, and knowing the only thing he could see were the candles in the dark pit...
