Published in 1927, "To the Lighthouse" is one of Virginia Woolf's most praised novels. This novel is considered by many to be one of Woolf's more autobiographical works. More precisely it portrays Virginia's relationship with her parents. It can be argued that Mr. and Mrs. Ramsay in this novel represents Virginia's real parents, and that the setting is a reproduction of her own childhood memories. Looking more closely at the plot in this novel one might say that there is not much of a story present. In this essay I will look more into this and comment on the statement "the story is so simple that it almost vanishes". I will start off by summing up some of the novel's main events.
