“No, you’re the same height I am, five-eight and a half. We’re on the short side.” In the novel A Separate Peace by john Knowles the two main characters Gene and Phineas, called Finny during the novel, are best friends as well as roommates in an esteemed boarding school in New Hampshire named Devon. Throughout the novel the two boys go through many obstacles in their friendship while they are maturing and becoming men. Gene being insecure and very jealous and Finny being self assured and modest make them quite different. Although the author Knowles shows us how different Gene and Finny are, but they are actually more similar than different.
