The Civil War's battle of Gettysburg, fought from July 1 - 3, 1863, near the little eastern Pennsylvania town from which it draws its name, is the largest and single most famous clash between two armies ever fought on North American soil. This movie presents a truly balanced account of the Civil War from both a Union and a Confederate point of view. The outright respect and love displayed by re-enactors and stars alike is a wonderful thing to see. Jeff Daniel's characterization of the decent Colonel Joshua Chamberlain was awesome. Richard Jordan's performance as Lewis Armistead was very good as well. Not to leave out Martin Sheen, who played Robert E. Lee and Sam Elliott, who played the western General John Buford. General Hancock should have had more parts to play in the movie.
On Pickett's charge they were trying to give people an idea of just how many people were involved in this battle by using overhead shooting, you can say 15, 000 but when you see it, it amazes you that they could all do this in such uniformity. History records the fatal attack on George Pickett, which was properly shown to be General Lee's error...
