Assignment 6-Gifted and Talented Individuals
The term "gifted" is often used to refer to individuals who posses exceptionally high intellectual abilities- demonstrating exceptional abilities and skills in mathematics, sports and music. Perhaps, because of their unusual abilities, "educators and policy makers frequently assume that these individuals can reach their full potential" without any help and we assume that these individuals don't need specialized programs and assistance (pg. 530).
Gifted and talented children are those identified by their outstanding abilities and their capabilities in high intellectual performance. These individuals require differentiated educational programs and services beyond those normally provided by the regular school program. Thus, the educational provisions that should be made for gifted and talented individuals in the educational system should consist of some form of program planning that will serve to accommodate the diverse abilities these students bring to school...
