Analysis of "To A Daughter Leaving Home"
One of the most common situations in life today is a single parent struggling to raise their child on their own, especially single mothers. What is even harder for parents in general is having to one day let go of your baby, which is now a young adult. The Poem "To A Daughter Leaving Home" shows these hardships and a mother who is trying to over come them.
The poem "To A Daughter Leaving Home" is about a mother teaching her eight year old daughter to ride a bicycle. As the child rides, wobbly and uneasily, on only two wheels, her mother jogs beside her. The mother can not keep up and the child rides ahead. The mother has an open mouthed, or a surprised expression as the child rounds a corner in the path in the park. The mother waits to hear her daughter fall off the bike. She sprints to catch up to the child, but can not catch up. As the child rides further away the mother begins to see her as small and breakable...
