Inferential statistics doesn't sound like too interesting of a subject for a paper to be about. I've found though that inferential stats can be interesting if studied in-depth enough and fully understood. I hope that by the end of the following explanation you will be interested in the world of inferential statistics and wish to expand your knowledge on the subject.
The logical place to begin when attempting to explain inferential statistics is with what statistics is by itself. Statistics is basically the process of studying a large group of people based on a very small representative group of people. This is an important definition when attempting to explain inferential stats because inferential stats are just regular stats with a few bonuses. Inferential statistics takes that representative group and draws inferences about the how others will act and why they will act that way. This is important because without drawing certain inferences we could not collect even somewhat valid data about a population. If the practice of gathering statistics were not around we would have no way of gauging group feelings and leanings, therefore ending the study of political science and political behavior. So technically I guess all of us political science majors should give statistics a big pat on the back...
