About 2 decades ago a girl named Alex was born. With both of her parents as scientists it was no wonder that when Alex was able to read volcanoes fascinated her. And since she lived so close to Mt. St. Helen it was really easy for her to learn about volcanoes. By the time Alex was 10 she was reading all she could about volcanoes. She learned how to use a Mercator projection map. She learned that you can't be too accurate if you use a map like that because you can't get the exactly measurements but a Mercator projection map is definitely a helpful map to use.
When she started reading all of these books her parents thought that it would be a good idea if she wrote down the things she learned so far about volcanoes in a notebook so she can keep track. And in her notebook she explained how a topographic map works...
