The Burgundy Bear
It was a cool and fresh night two summers ago when I was visiting my grandparents in ______. My grandpa is the president of the board that runs the condo complex that they live in. His task that week was to design a way to lock up the garbage can and dumpster sheds, so that a returning bear that had been getting into the garbage at night couldn't anymore.
While I was visiting, I helped him think of ways to lock garbage sheds. We sat on the patio eating our sandwiches; I was looking out at the lake while my grandpa was peering over the railing at the garbage can sheds mumbling to himself. We finally decided on a design that that bolts a piece of aviators' cable to one door with a carabineer looped and crimped to the other end, and reaches over to latch a sliding bolt action lock on the right door.
The first night, two bears managed to get to the garbage somehow. We still do not know how they got into the garbage cans without even breaking the locking system that we had designed. Next we did what my grandma had been telling us to do the whole time; we took our query to the Internet.
