Juan Ponce de Leon
Juan Ponce de Leon was a Spanish explorer and conquistador. Ponce de Leon had major achievements throughout his life. He set out a voyage with Christopher Columbus; he led a privately outfitted an expedition in search of Bemini, and the "fountain of youth." Ponce de Leon first sailed for Spain but the sailed for Puerto Rico shortly after it was discovered. Ponce de Leon was so important because he discovered Florida trying to find the "Fountain of Youth."
He was born in Santervas de Campos, Valladolid province, Spain, around 1460. There is not much known from Ponce de Leon's family history and not much Known from his education and training. Many people have mixed opinions of Ponce de Leon, they think of him as a courageous, brave, and curious man but others think that he is greedy, mistreated natives, and his goal was money. He died trying to conquer Florida, natives brutally attacked him while they were trying to defeat Florida . Ponce de Leon suffered an arrow wound on his back so his men retreated to Havana and he later died there...
