DEATH PENALTY
Putting to death people judged to have committed certain extremely
terrible crimes is a practice of ancient standing, but in the United States
in the second half of the twentieth century, it has become a very
controversial issue. Changing views on this difficult issue led the
Supreme Court to abolish capital punishment in 1972 but later upheld it in 1977. Life is a precious gift from God. Even when a person has no material possessions, life is still possessed.
The interview presented Gov. George Ryan of Illinois, who pardoned 171 people on the death row in the state of Illinois. From my point of view I disagree with the death penalty so I believe that Gov. Ryan was right to pardon those men from the death row.
First, looking at the fact that six people out of ten that are on the death row are innocent, that means that Gov. Ryan saved a lot of innocent lives that were about to die just because of someone else's mistake...
