Every so often Tucson Water sends out a brochure with their bills called Water Smart. Included in the pamplet are ideas on how customers can reduce the amount of water they use, and in turn their bill etc. Several months ago I noticed that one of the ideas suggested was for those men who shave with a razor to turn the water on only when rinsing their razor--rather than simply letting the water run the entire time they are shaving. When I read that I almost laughed. After all, how much water could such a change really save! Well I got to thinking about that, so I conducted an experiment. I shaved both ways, and measured the amount of water I used. It took about 2 gallons when I let the water run the entire time, and about 1 gallon when I ran it only to rinse the razor.
