What is real and how do I define what is real? This question initially perplexed me. I couldn't say what was real. Is this desk and computer I'm currently typing on or is it a figment of my imagination or am I dreaming. Is this world I'm in the real world or am I a giant brain in a vat with electrodes pulsating through me creating this "unreal" world. That of course is Hilary Putnam's theory, but I do not subscribe to that. I began to develop an opinion on what was real while reading various philosophers works. Many I quickly dismissed, but a few philosophers' ideas resonated in my mind. The theories and ideas of philosophers that I subscribe to are Plato, Aristotle and one aspect of Rene Descartes theory.
I know it sounds ridiculous that I subscribe to both Aristotle and Plato considering they have two radically different viewpoints...
