It was mid-July, and I was standing in line at the Sioux Falls Airport waiting my flight to New Orleans, LA the reason was a church mission. On the plane ride down to New Orleans, all I could, picture was a jazzy, bourbon street setting, like what you all ways see on television and postcards.
We landed in New Orleans on a gloomy, rainy day. On your way to your hotel, which was only two blocks north of Bourbon Street, I started too noticed that New Orleans was not all that I had pictured. There was trash flying around in the breeze, and homeless people sitting in cardboard boxes, these images were the images that were not plastered all over postcards.
Once we got to our hotel, it was a very nice, delegate hotel with a balcony over looking Capital Street which led down to bourbon. I could only imagine what this balcony is like during the very popular Marti gratis. Once we all got settled into our new home for a week, we got our instructions and plans for the rest of the week. The plan was to go downtown New Orleans, into a low income, homeless area, and clean up a pre selected families home. It sounds easy enough, but we decided to see what this city was all about...
