Adoption is an ancient argument. It is spoken of in the Bible. The Greeks and Romans, Egyptians and Babylonians all had adoption systems. Adoption is defined as to take or accept as ones own. Adoption is an act is when the legal relation of parent and child is created. It was first introduced into the United States law in the mid 19th century and today it is allowed in all states of the United States and in Great Britain. Adoption is usually a judicial proceeding, requiring a hearing before a judge. Adoption laws generally provide that the consent of the parents or guardian, or that of the child if the child is over a certain age, must be obtained.
