At my home in Columbus, OH, I have a collection of Disney Classics on display. The third movie in the collection is Robin Hood. Do you recall? The story of the peasant villager who stole from the rich to give to the poor, in attempts to topple the oppressive, caste system ruling in Old England. As I think of the cartoonish cover, with its cheerful characters and colorful images I imagine Bill Gates and Michael Dell as the contemporary ruling class, while advocates of the double taxation of corporate earnings collectively implement the Robin Hood theory, attempting to balance the economic inequalities of our society.
Although Robin Hood was never one of my favorite Disney Classics, even at a young age I realized that Robin Hood should be celebrated for his social justice. I mean I was born a black male, living in a single parent home (see statistics on any block in the West End). My mother worked tirelessly as an accountant for the state of Ohio, always keeping things together, and giving me what I needed to get where I am today.
As a result, over ten years later, I find myself a student here at Morehouse, poised to graduate and become a successful businessman and leader. I recently opened an investment account that I hope to be able to fund sufficiently enough over the next years, with the purpose of establishing seed money for my own business...
