The Nightmare Before Christmas
In 1993 a classic was born with the addition of The Nightmare Before Christmas to the Buena Vista Home Entertainment collection. The masterful Tim Burton, who has been critically acclaimed for his brilliant work in Edward Scissor Hands, Sleepy Hollow, Beetle Juice and many others, directs this delightful Halloween tale. This combined with Danny Elfman's brilliant score of soft hearted melody and innocent childlike lyrics makes this stop motion film come to life and brings us to this twisted world that's solely bent on Halloween. The movie, geared toward younger children through adults, explains the worlds where our holidays come from. While in the process conveying the message that we all are designed specially for certain tasks.
The opening setting is an elaborate Halloween celebration, with all oddities of creatures singing and enjoying the Holiday. It is here that we meet the main character, The Pumpkin King that is also known as Jack Skullington (voiced by Chris Sarandon when speaking and Danny Elfman when singing). Jack is first seen as icon of the town that is looked up too for his ability to frighten and haunt; but shortly, we learn that he in fact is quite depressed and bored with Halloween. After a walk through the woods, he stumbles upon gateways to the other holiday towns and decides to venture into a tree shaped door that leads to Christmas Town. Here he finally is shown a different environment than Halloween Town and later decides to take over the annual duties of Santa Clause or "Sandy Claws...
